Group Therapy: Connecting with others.

Group therapy is a great way to process any struggles we face with people that are experiencing the same or similar situations. There is a powerful connection between people that have shared experiences. From natural disasters, multiple victims of a specific traumatic event; to couples that have experienced miscarriage, or widows/widowers that are grieving the loss of their partner. When we come together and process these experiences, we become whole together. Today I am going to talk about the different types of group therapy that I offer here at Fractured Light Counseling.
Psychoeducational Groups - These groups tend to focus on educating participants on specific diagnosis or mental health issues. In these groups we discuss different symptoms and how to manage them, coping strategies to manage our stress and emotions related to the diagnosis, and, in some cases, how the diagnosis can interact with other mental health or medical diagnosis.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Groups – These groups focus on identifying negative thought patterns and behaviors that participants experience, challenging these and integrating more helpful or positive thoughts and behaviors into the participants lives.
Support Groups – These groups are exactly what they sound like. They are a safe place for people with similar experiences to come together and offer support , empathy, and encouragement to each other to work through their individual and collective struggles.
Final Thoughts
While group therapy is not for everyone, it can be extremely beneficial to people to know that they are not alone and do not have to face their experiences on their own either. If you or someone you know is interested in joining a group, reach out…
